1991 Buick Lesabre Limited, No Air Through the Vents, Blower Motor Problem?

by Brad
(Flint, MI USA)

We are unable to get air through the vents, we can hear the vents change, but no air through the vents. Please Help.

Steve Says,

There are several thins that are likely to be causing your problem. You could have a blower motor that is not working. This is the part that blows the air through the vents. Your blower motor controls (the ones that select how fast the blower motor goes) might be bad. They might not be telling your blower motor to turn on. You could even have a blower motor resistor that is not working. This is the part that makes the blower work at different speeds.

If you have basic electrical tools and skills the best way to figure this out is to remove the connector from the blower motor (usually located under the passenger side dash) then use a test light to see if you are getting power to the motor with the controls in the "on" position.

If you are getting power to the motor then it is probably a blower motor problem. If you are not getting power to the blower motor then find the blower motor resistor and see if you are getting power there. If you are getting power to the resistor but not to the motor, then the resistor is bad. If you are not getting power to the resistor then move to the control head. Do the same thing here. If you are getting power to the controls then they are probably bad but if you are not then you need to see if you are getting power to the fuse for the blower.

This type of blower problem is usually just a matter of tracing down where the current stops flowing. It is usually easy to trace down as long as you have the right wiring diagram and it is detailed enough to help you find what you need. You should also have a good voltmeter. You can find them at any good auto parts store and even at Walmart.

If you do not have a good repair manual I will post the link to one that I highly recommend. It is called Alldata and it is what I use in my business. You will get a professional level manual for less than a cheapo one that you find at most auto parts stores. Here is the link:
