1991 Ford Thunderbird, Blown Head Gasket

by TJ
(Ridgeland, MS USA)

1991 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 V6.
How hard is it to replace the head gasket?

Steve Says,

Head gaskets are tough jobs even for good mechanics. I highly recommend that you do not do this job yourself unless you have a lot of experience, skills and tools.

There are many things that have to be done very carefully and correctly in order for the new head gasket to work properly. For example you have to be able to torque it down in the correct sequence and to the correct specs. You also have to make sure that the block is not cracked or warped and you have to make sure the head is not cracked or warped.

The bottom line is that this job should be done by a professional mechanic. Even though it would be an expensive repair it will be worth it to have someone do it who you know will not make things worse.

I hope this helps you with your blown head gasket problem. Thanks for using my website.
