1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, Won't Start.

When the key is turned, the fuel pump is not being engaged. When it works, you can hear it kick on. Replaced the relay, but that wasn't it. If you cross the connectors where the relay plugs in, you can make the pump run, but with the relay plugged in, nothing happens. Don't know if there is something else that causes the system to function? A fuse? Part of the ignition system? any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks for asking me your question. There are several things that could be causing this problem. The most likely problem is that the fuel pump is simply not being turned on. On most cars the computer turns on the pump. I do not know if this is the case with yours or not. It sounds like the rest of the system works how it should if you can turn the pump on manually. What you need is a good wiring diagram. I do not have one, but I know where you can get one along with advice from a Jeep technician. Just type your question into the box below:
