1994 Chevy 1500 4x4, Transmission Problem
I have a 1994 chevy 1500 4x4. I traded for this truck and the guy who had it before me pulled horse trailers with it. Well, when I got it the transmission lasted about 3 weeks and it started not shifting out of first. I figured it was shot and I just took it and had it rebuilt. After the rebuild, all was fine for about 4 months and it started not wanting to shift out of first, you could run the rpm's up to about 3.5 and let off the gas and I guess it would bypass second and go straight to third because it would shift kind of hard but then it would be fine until you came to a stop and then you had to go through all that again. Well after about 3 days of driving it like that I was driving and all of a sudden it acted like i had reached up and shoved it into neutral. It wouldn't do anything, just rev up like it was in neutral. It did the same thing in every gear (P-R-N-D-2-1). Is there any control module that could have went out or anything like that?
Steve Says,
Thanks for asking me your question. The first thing I would do is take this truck back to the place that rebuilt the tranny. Hopefully they gave you a warranty.
This problem that you are having really does not sound like any control module. It sounds more like something inside the transmission. In this year of truck the transmissions were not largely computer controlled.
I'm sure you have already checked, but you should be sure that the fluid is full, and you might even want to crawl under it to make sure that all the bolts are tight and that there are no obvious problems.
If the shop that you had rebuild the transmission is any good they will stand behind their work and repair your truck free of charge (if the problem is something that they caused).
I hope this helps and good luck with your truck.
