1994 Ford Explorer, A/C Smells Like Gas

by Kathy Hearrell
(Jacksonville, FL USA)

I have a 1994 Ford Explorer. When I am using the Air Conditioner and stopping for a light or idling the smell of gas comes in and is very bad. What could the problem be?

Steve Says,

Thanks for asking me your question. The most likely cause of your problem is some type of fuel leak in your engine compartment. It is also possible that there is a defective sensor that is causing your computer to put too much fuel into your engine and causing the gas smell.

If you don't want to take your car to a repair shop you can check under your hood when the engine is running and see if you can pinpoint where the fuel is leaking. If you don't want to do this yourself then a good repair shop should be able to diagnose this problem fairly quickly.

I hope this has helped. Please post the fix when you know what it is. Thanks.
