1995 Chevy S10 Pick-up, Gears Don't Engage

by Evelyn
(Hattiesburg, MS, USA)

This 1995 S190 pickup will start and shift, but won't move. The clutch petal seems to engage to me, but does nothing. It seems to shift but is not causing it to drive. What could be wrong?

Steve Says,

There are several things that could be causing this problem. The first thing that comes to mind is that you could just have a clutch that is completely worn out. Many times if this is the case the truck will almost start to move but not quite.

Another thing that could be happening is the input shaft could be broken. If this were the case the clutch would work fine and it would go into all the gears just fine, but since the input shaft to the transmission is broken it still would not be able to move.

These are the two most likely scenarios. It is possible that you also have a problem in your hydraulic system, but that is unlikely because your clutch pedal feels normal. If it did not feel normal then I would suspect a problem with your master cylinder or slave cylinder.

I hope this has helped and please post the fix when you find it.
