2002 Pontiac Grand Am Blower and Lights (DRL's) Work Intermittently

by Jeff K
(Rochester, NY, USA)

Shortly after starting the vehicle the HVAC blower may or may not work. I turn it on and nothing happens, the SVS light turns on, then moments later the blower will turn on, and everything is fine for the duration of the car ride. In addition, 3 times now the entire dash has gone out in the same fashion. No lights, no gauges, auto headlights do not work (but the headlights will work if I turn them on manually, the dash 'back-light' will turn on as well, but still no gauges). Moments later the dash comes back up and returns to normal operation. This is obviously an electrical issue of some type but I don't even know where to start to look in order to correct this for good. It appears this is a somewhat common issue, but I have yet to find a definitive answer. Please help.

Thanks for your question. The blower motor and DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) not working intermittently is a common problem with Grand Ams of your year. Replacing the ignition switch fixes the vast majority of cars with this type of problem.
