I too have NOISE from rear in 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 by: Anonymous
I too have noise on my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500. It isn't really a squeal, it's a sort of wheel slip noise. I can't really describe it. You have to hear it. From a stop...turning left or right (not if I go straight ahead) I have a horrible grinding... almost wheel chatter. I have taken it in NO less than 3 times (today as a matter of a fact) and they find NOTHING! They say it is normal. It is almost as if the one wheel is turning and the other is turning too fast/too slow...People on the street corner actually look at us. IT MAKES A NOISE. The Dodge dealer here says it is the different rear end in this year of 2500. I actually called the manufacturer and spoke to a design engineer for this type of rear end and they said that there should be NO NOISE at all. Any hints as to what to do next?
Steve Says,
I would take it to a good independent repair shop. Sometimes dealers will tell you that what you think is a problem is normal because they don't want to fix it.
It sounds like it might be something in your differential but it could also be something else like wheel bearings or your transfer case if you have a 4x4.
I think if you find a good independent repair shop they will be able to diagnose this problem fairly quickly.
