2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Low Speed Squeal/Screeech

by Dug
(Walvoord, OH USA)

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with 48,000 miles. I noticed that there is a loud squeak/screech coming from the right rear end at low speeds when turning. Any ideas?

Steve Says,

There are several things that come to mind. The first is that there could be a buildup of brake dust and/or road grime on your brake shoe or drum surface that is causing your noise. Another thing that could be causing your problem is your wheel bearing. If it is going bad it can cause this type of noise.

If I were you I would take the tire and brake drum off and inspect it really good, maybe even spray all of the brake dust off with some brake cleaner (be sure to use a face mask so you don't breath any brake dust in). After you put the wheel back on and torque the lug nuts down try moving the wheel up and down and see if there is any play there. If there is then you probably have a bad wheel bearing.

It is also possible that you have a problem in your differential, but that is not as likely. There are several bearings in it that can cause problems like you are having.

I hope this has helped. Good luck!
