2004 Ford Expedition, Truck Shaking

I have a 2004 Ford Expedition. When coming to a stop you can feel the motor shake slightly and when you are at a complete stop the motor is surging up and down and feels like it will stall out at any minute.
Then when you lift your foot off of the brake pedal slightly to creep along sitting in traffic it bounces your head back and forth and surges forward as if I'm doing it with the brakes , but I'm not. The "service engine soon" light is on..... Please help!! Any Suggestions?

Hi, Gene. Thanks for using my website!
The first thing that you need to do is get your codes checked. If your check engine light is on that means that your trucks computer has some diagnostic codes stored in it that will give you a clue as to what the problem might be. Many auto repair shops and most auto parts stores will check codes for free.
Given the symptoms that you describe I'm guessing that when you check the OBD codes you will find a misfire code. Most of the time when you have a problem with your truck shaking the way you say it is it is caused by a cylinder misfire. Usually the code will even tell you which cylinder is misfiring (for example P0301 is a misfire on cylinder 1).
The cause of the misfire (if that is truly what the problem is!) could be many things. The first thing to think about is when the last time was that you had a tune up. If it has been a long time (more than a couple years) then you might want to think about having a tune up done. Some of the most common causes of misfires are bad spark plugs, spark plug wires, etc.. So if it has been a while you might need to have it done anyway and as a bonus it might fix this problem.
If the code is something different then you can look it up on this website to see what it means. You can also leave me a comment and let me know what the trouble code is and I'll help you figure out the possibilities.
The main thing that you need to remember is that you need to find out as much as possible about what is going on with your truck. The more you know and the more you know about what the different possibilities are the less likely that you will get ripped off.
I hope this has helped.
