2004 Ford Mondeo Cruise Control Not Working

by Dave
(Mansfield, Notts, England )

Ford Mondeo LX diesel.

My brake lights are on all the time and the cruise control is not working. Both these faults occured simultaneously. I thought that there was a problem with the brake pedal linkage because if I lifted the brake pedal up with my foot the brake lights went off and the cruise control worked again but my local garage have been unable to fix the problem for me

The first thing I would have them check is the brake light switch. I think you are right to think that it has to do with the brake pedal.

There is a switch that is located near the top of the pedal that turns the brake lights on and disengages the cruise control when the pedal is pressed. If it is faulty or out of adjustment it can cause both of these problems.

I would be asking this garage a lot of questions. This should not be a hard diagnosis and most likely the problem is the brake light switch. If you do not completely trust your garage it might be time to find another.

I hope this has helped.
