Suggestion to 'Gas Cap Light Won't Go Out' by: Heather
I had this problem on my 2004 Grand Prix GT. After replacing my gas cap 3 times I finally gave up on it. I started having another problem some time later where my car doesn't start on the first try (still not resolved by the way). We found a code tester on sale and purchased it to see if we could resolve the starting issue. The codes showed that the thermostat wasn't working properly. I didn't really notice a problem with the heat in my car but changed the thermostat and mysteriously my gas cap light hasn't come on since. There must be a connection somehow between the thermostat and the gas cap indicator or perhaps the thermostat being out of whack causes issues with the gas...Sounds strange, but I am no longer annoyed by that light coming on constantly. You might want to try it...a thermostat is cheap and can't hurt to try it before spending money on taking it a garage so they can put it on a tester and charge you $80 to tell you need a new $8 thermostat. Good Luck.
If anyone has any ideas on what could be causing my car not to start on the first try, please leave a response. It starts fine when it's cold and seems to happen more after I have driven the car and shut it off.
