2005 Toyota Camry. I dropped a pocket knife down the slots where the parking brake lever is lifted up and down. How do I Access this area?
Thank you.
Steve Says,You will need to remove the center console in order to get to this area. There is a chance that you can get your pocket knife out by checking at the bottom of the console where it meets the carpet. Sometimes there is a gap there that will let you get your finger or a screwdriver in and try to push it out.
Most of the time there is some space between the console itself and the carpet. You can try pushing on the carpet to see if there is enough room to get a finger or screwdriver under it to get to your knife.
Another thing you could try is to get a magnet from an auto parts store the has an extendable shaft. You can try putting this down where the knife is and it might pick it up. If these do not work then you will need to remove the console.
In order to get most consoles out you will need to find the screws that attach it to the floor of the vehicle. Sometimes you have to remove the seats in order to find them (Sometimes it is easier to just remove the seats anyway that way they will be out of the way and it will be easier to get the center console out of your car. Many times there are some screws in the rear ashtray of the console.
The e-brake might have a handle that is too big to fit inside the hole for it in the console and in that case you would have to remove it. They usually just unscrew. You will probably have to take off some of the lower dash to free up the console as well.
After you get it off you might want to clean it all out. There is usually lots of dust, hair, french fries, etc. under there that never get cleaned out so you might as well do it while you are there.
