Never trust Monro...they take advantage of people
by: Debbie- the single targeted woman

I took my car in to a local Monro Muffler shop in Gates NY on March 3rd 2011 because there was some kind of resistance and winding noise in my front end. I am hearing impaired so it is difficult for me to hear much at all, I rely mostly on the vibrations that I feel in the steering wheel. Undoubtly I knew something was wrong with me 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. I had one of the mechanics drive the car along with me (he did the driving). He said it sounded like the wheel bearing. I left my car with them overnight and asked them to call me once they confirmed what they found out. The next day I got a call telling me that it was going to cost me 1300.00 for they said I needed new bearings in both front wheels (399.00 each...798.00), new rotors and pads (237.00) and a new muffler (325.00) - I might have the brakes and muffler price backwards...but still....1300.00!!!??? I took my car to another independent shop that my friend referred me to and they told me that I absolutely did not need new bearing in both wheels, only the one on the driver side. The brakes need need to be replaced. They said my muffler was fine. They quoted me 615.00 to fix the wheel bearing one one side and new rotors and pads for front AND they replaced my O2 sensor that was causing my check engine light to stay on. Everyone tells me I should never go to a place like Monro...now I see why.
