Honest Auto Repair Advice
I fix cars and answer people's auto repair questions for a living. My friends and family keep telling me "we wish you lived closer so we could take our car to someone we trust". I believe everyone should have a good, trustworthy mechanic. That is why I created this site.
Throughout the pages of this website I will be explaining many different aspects of my industry. I have years of experience as an automotive technician, automotive manager and as a do it yourself mechanic just learning about cars. I have filled this site with my knowledge of the industry to help you decide whether you can fix it yourself, where to have you car repaired if you cannot fix it yourself, how to interpret car repair estimates, how to avoid getting ripped off (car repair fraud) and lots of other things.
As an automotive mechanic I have dealt with many people and some people who had been previously ripped off by an auto repair shop. I hate to say it but it is too easy for repair shops to rip people off. As a consumer the best thing that you can do is learn about your car and about the automotive industry. I have provided a look into it inside the pages of my automotive website.
More About my Site
Here is a breakdown of some of the content you will find on my auto repair website.
My Auto Repair Blog
This blog is updated often with car repair questions, do it yourself advice, repair articles and other information that car owners need to know about. This is one of the best blogs about fixing cars out there.
Do it Yourself
If you like to fix your car yourself then this page is for you. I update this page often as I think of more repairs that I think my readers will want to know about. Not all car fixes are easy or a good idea for a home mechanic to try. I've written these pages to help you decide if you should fix your car yourself or not. Sometimes you will save yourself time and money by taking it to a mechanic.
Car Question Page
If you ever need to get a car repair question answered quickly and accurately by trained automotive technicians then this is the place for you to ask your question. You can get any information that you could ever need about your car. If you need a wiring diagram, step-by-step repair procedure, advice from a dealership technician, maintenance information, a picture of a sensor on your car, or anything else you can use this page to get that information.
Check Engine Light Codes
Everyone has their check engine light come on at some point in the life of their vehicle. This part of my website is for you. When that dreaded check engine light comes on you need to get the codes read, then you can come back to my OBD codes section and look up the meaning of the code and what the possible fixes are. There are some diagnostic hints for many of the engine codes listed. I also have a question box for you to ask me your obd code questions. When you see the check engine light come on, come to this page and find out everything you want to know about obd ii codes.
Car Repair Fraud
There are so many ways that automotive shops can rip off their customers. When you have car problems it is so important to know what the common repair scams are, what to do about them and how to avoid them. The purpose of this section of my website is to educate car owners about auto repair fraud. You will find fraud stories, rip off reports and a place to send me your fraud stories. I've included several videos to help you understand more about repair scams.
Auto Repair Manuals
If you try to repair your car yourself you will need a good online manual to help you fix your car correctly. If you try to do it without a repair manual you will probably end up spending a lot more time and more money than you would have if you just spent a few dollars to get access to all of the car information you would need to do the repairs. I use an online auto repair manual so I know exactly how to do every repair job. The only do it yourself auto repair jobs that I recommend that you do without a manual are the really easy ones. Even things like air filters can be hard to replace if you don't know what you're doing.
Car Repair Estimates
Anytime you take your vehicle to a shop to get something diagnosed you should get an estimate of the cost of repairs. The problem is that many people have no idea whether the estimate is fair or not. This page is here to help you figure that out. Near the top of the page you will find a box where you can type in the year, make and model of your car along with the repair job that needs to be done. It will then show you the price that the repairs should cost. It includes estimates for dealerships as well as independent repair shops (dealerships are generally more expensive). This will help you to know if you are getting treated fairly by your mechanic. Come back and use this every time you get an estimate from your mechanic.
Car Parts
This section of my website is all about car parts. You can find out whether you should be buying new parts, used car parts, parts from the dealership or from your local auto parts store. Any time you are looking into buying a part for your car you should read this page about auto repair parts.
Car Racing Games
This is the "fun" part of my website. You can play car racing games right from within my site. I enjoy playing online flash games and I've included some of my favorite racing games on these pages. Have a look and enjoy some of the best racing games I've found.
Car Buying
Sooner or later everyone buys a car. I've written a few pages about this process. Whether you are looking to buy a new car from a dealer or you've found the best deal on a car on craigslist you can find what you need to know before you buy on these pages. There are some very important things to look for whether you are buying a used car or buying a new car. Check out this section before you buy.
Cool Tools Store
If you are looking for some cool tools to diagnose your car or maybe something to help you troubleshoot your car problems this is the pace to find them. I've included some of my favorite tools to diagnose some of the toughest auto repair problems.
There are a few other links on my navigation bar on the left that go to my other pages that are about me, and how to contact me.
