Common Brake Repair Scams

Dishonest auto repair shops have been exploiting a fairly common brake repair scam to make more money from unsuspecting customers.

The tactics employed in this scam can be countered most of the time by being informed, asking a lot of questions, watching the "mechanic" do the work and asking them to show you what is wrong on your car.

If you still have any unresolved vehicle problems or questions, you can ask an auto mechanic online. For expert answers specific to your vehicle's make and model, I recommend JustAnswer Car. They have a large pool of certified mechanics to answer your questions for a small fee and you can also browse their answers to other users for free.

Before you get any brake work done on your vehicle, watch this excellent video from NBC which exposes this brake repair fraud:

As you can see, it is very easy to trick people into buying things they don't need. Unfortunately, this type of scam is not isolated to only brake repairs or only this company. I added this video not just to warn you against going to such shops, but also to demostrate how easy it can be to dupe an uninformed vehicle owner.

Many auto repair shops think nothing of charging a customer for a part that they didn't actually replace or telling the customer that they need a part replaced when they really don't. It's an easy way for them to make some money off of unsuspecting customers who are too busy or just don't understand anything about their car or the repairs that need to be done.

Are You a Victim of Brake Repair Scams?

If you have been overcharged or scammed into paying for needless repairs, seeking legal help from a lawyer is the best way to get your money back. Every state has specific laws regarding consumer protection and what you can do in case someone rips you off.

Most victims find that hiring a lawyer is too costly and troublesome. I agree with that, so I recommend my customers to ask a licensed lawyer for legal advice online instead.

JustAnswer has a team of lawyers who specialise in consumer protection law. For a small fee, you can seek their professional advice on how to resolve your situation and claim for compensation.
