This brake repair scam is a fairly common and easy way to make more money from customers. If you have read the rest of my auto repair fraud section then you know that the tactics employed in this scam can be stopped most of the time by being informed, asking a lot of questions and watching the "mechanic" do the work or asking them to show you what is wrong on your car.
Below is a video that shows exactly what I'm talking about. Watch this before you get any brake work or any other work done on your car:
As you can see, it is very easy to trick people into buying things they don't need.
Unfortunately, this type of scam is not isolated to only this repair or only this company. I did not add this video just to tell you not to go to this shop, but to give you an example of how easy it can be if the customer is not informed and educated about their car.
Many auto repair shops think nothing of charging a customer for a part that they didn't actually replace or telling the customer that they need a part replaced when they really don't. It's an easy way for them to make some money off of unsuspecting customers who are too busy or just don't understand anything about their car or the repairs that need to be done.
Have you been scammed? Want to do something about it?
Is so then you need to talk to a lawyer...I know, I know you don't have the money to talk to a lawyer...it's OK.
